Washington's Eagle also known as The Greater Eagle is an apparent species of eagle.
Ornithologist John James Audubon apparently had at least four sightings of these birds, and even killed one and put it in his book The Birds of America. Originally accepted as a new species of eagle, it later was believed to simply be a juvenile bald eagle, but Washington's eagle is at least three feet in height and sixteen feet in wingspan, making it the biggest eagle and bird in North America (dwarfing the adult bald eagle, which is between 28–40 inches in length and a wingspan of 6.2 ft). Nowadays it is thought to be either extinct, rare, or a mistaken identity of a juvenile bald eagle.
