The Emperor Tamarin is well known for the large "moustache" that each individual has, it is said that they were named after a German dictator who had a moustache which resembled the monkey's.
The Emperor Tamarin lives together in groups of eight to usaully ten individuals. They are usually found in South America. The oldest female always leads the group above several of the mature males. Mutual grooming plays an important role for bonding and socializing. It has various cries which help them to promptly recognize interlopers. Emperor tamarins are thought to have been named after the Emperor of Germany, Emperor Wilhelm II, due to their long, white "moustaches."
