African Pygmy Hedgehogs are small and round mammals.  They are typicaly found near African deserts in Sudan, Senegal, and Zambia (North Africa).  There a few different types of African Pygmy hedgehogs which include, salt and pepper, cinnamon, albino, and pinto to name a few.  African Pygmy hedgehogs also make great and wonderful pets.

Appearence[]

They usually have small grey-brown colored legs, tail, and face.  On the belly, they are covered in white fur.  Their back is where it is noturious for.  These are actually called spines, which vary in color. If the hedgehog feels threatened, it will curl up into a ball, using its spines for protection.

Addition Information[]

These noturnal creatures are omnivorus.  They will eat small insects, spiders, scorpions, small snakes, lizards, and frogs.  They will also eat fruit, seeds, fungi, roots, and nuts.  The hedgehog is actually immune to the poison allowing it to eat the hazardous animals.  They will typicaly get about 7-9 inches long and weigh a little over 20 ounces.  Hedgehogs are solitary animals eccept when breeding.  They can actually breed from the age of two months old.  The young hoglets won't leave their mothers until 40-45 days.  African Pygmy hedgehogs will live up to two-three years in the wild and eight-ten years in captivity.
